All Characters MUST choose an alignment for their characters. Sometimes alignment maybe limited by a characters choice of class, for example (a paladin must be good). This is to serve as a guide to the characters basic morals and views toward others in general. You will be expected to play your character properly according to their chosen alignment but remember, this is a tool not a restraint. This will help define the characters attitudes but does not prevent the character from changing their ways or acting irrationally or out of their normal personality depending on circumstances. We will offer you a choice of nine different alignments to choose from. These will serve well to help reflect the personality traits of the people in the campaign. Alignments are bases on 5 different attitudes, these being Law, Neutrality, Chaos, Good, and Evil. Nine different possible alignments result from combining these ideals. Your choices are as follows:
1) Lawful-Good – A Lawful-Good character believes that order and a strong organized system of leadership makes life better for everyone. They are firm believers in Laws and Rules and adhering to them as well as enforcing them. These characters will strive to do things that bring the greatest benefits to people and almost always try to avoid harming people. Examples are: A noble wise king, a stern priest, an honest hardworking commoner. Yoda or Gandalf good examples.\
2) Lawful-Neutral – A Lawful-Neutral character also believes in order and strong leadership systems although to them it does not matter if that system is one based on good or evil. A judge or a mercenary who never questions the orders given are prime examples of this alignment. A good example also is the predator.
3) Lawful-Evil – A Lawful-Evil character is one who uses a society and its laws to benefit them selves. They see a clear distinction between nobles and peasants. They support that which protects their own interests. If someone is made to suffer or hurt well that is just tough luck for them. These character don’t give a promise easily as they may have to go against their own best interests to fulfill it one day, although, if a promise is made they will only break it if it can be done within the guidelines of the laws in place. A tyrant or a greedy merchant are examples here. other examples here are Darth Vader and -=laughs=- Sadaam Hussein, as well as the Borg Collective.
4) Neutral-Good – These Characters believe that a balance of forces is important but the concerns of law and chaos do not moderate the need for goodness. This means that to maintain the balance in their eyes the need for fostering good can be achieved via supporting organized society or via overthrowing the existing society then so be it. Social structure to them really is of no consequence and holds no real value. Examples are: A general who disobeys his orders to destroy something he sees as evil. Another example is Captain Han Solo, or the Maquis.
5) True- Neutral – These characters believe in the ultimate balance of forces. They cannot see things in perspectives of good and evil. These characters though are very rare, as most people make judgments in one or another direction. For some reason they feel compelled to side with underdogs, and are prone to changing sides as the loser starts to become the winner. They strive to never let either side, good or evil hold to much power. These are obviously not a common breed. Many druids fit this mold. Most animals are true neutral also.
6) Neutral-Evil – These characters are primarily concerned with themselves and their own advancement. They have no issue working with others or alone. They are only concerned with getting ahead. Any quick and easy road to profit is ok. Legal, illegal, questionable, its all good to them, and they will take advantage of it. They are not of the chaotic to each his own and everyone for themselves mindset but have no issue screwing over friends or companions for gain. They are usually driven by money and power, which makes them easily bribed. A good example is an informer who rats to protect himself or -=snickers=- OuijaFaenTlabbar, or Jabba the Hutt, Smeagol , Gollum
7) Chaotic-Good – Very strong individualists but prone to have streaks of kindness to them. They believe in goodness and righteousness, but at same time have little use for laws or rules. They cant stand those who try to push others around and are guided by their own morals which although maybe good may not always fit in well with the rest of societies ideals of goodness. Prime example here is Drizzit Do’Urden, BatMan, The Punisher, Blade.
8) Chaotic-Neutral – These characters truly believe there exists absolutely no order to anything, including their own actions. They follow whatever whim strikes them at the moment. Good and evil are not factored in when making decisions. This group tends to be hard to deal with, and can be seen as unreliable. Some are prone to gambling or taking extreme risks. This is the MOST difficult alignment to play. Examples are: Giannalee DeVir, common lunatics and madmen, Conan the Barbarian.
9) Chaotic-Evil – The absolute Bane of all that is good and pure! Motivated by the desire for personal gain and pleasure they take what they want when they want by whatever means necessary. Strong survive weak perish attitude. Leadership to them is based on raw adulterated power, and they can be lead in a group if a leader is strong enough to push them all around, although such a leader would be devoured at the first sign of weakness. blood thirsty monsters tend to be chaotic evil. Others are Smaug, Voldermort
