WELCOME TO CHARACTER CREATION - PART 1 - Your appointment and ability scores
After you are accepted to join the campaign you will be given an appointment to meet with one of the government officials to set up your character for play. This meeting will get your character sheet setup and registered with the campaign. Before your meeting it is best if you read through the entire character creation section and have an idea who and what you wish your character to be. The official will take the time to assist you in developing your character and figuring out exactly where he/she/it will fit in in the world of kallidyr.
The first steps in creating a character are 1)Choosing a class and 2)determining their ability scores. This document will cover how we go about setting your ability scores for your character, what the abilities are, and how they affect your character. This will be done with the official assisting you but we will outline them to you here anyway so you have an understanding of what they are and how they are generated.
Here in Kallidyr each ability has a low score of 6 and a high score of 20...There are some methods and items that can alter abilities to go above 20 to super levels but these are rare. Initially you will be asked to roll a 20 sided die 6 times. We refer to that as 6d20(6 rolls of a 20 sided dice) get used to terms like that as lorebringers will often have you roll dice to assist in deciding your fates. The sum of these rolls will be added together to give you your total ability points. Now the fun starts. We have decided it is best to let you take it from here and divide the points up however you see fit to customize your character to suit the role you have planned for them. Remember you must assign at least 6 points to each ability. If you are horribly unlucky at this roll and come up with less than 50 points we will ask you to reroll your total.
When setting your ability scores you must take your class into account. For example, warriors are strong, magicusers are intelligent, theives are dextrous, etc.
Now we will outline the abilities and how they affect your character.
1) STRENGTH - This is the measure of your characters muscle, endurance and stamina. Strength is the main ability for warriors. Also a character with a strength of 18 or higher will cause extra damage when attacking. Also a lore bringer may use this score to factor if a character can lift something or carry something among other actions breaking down doors etc.
2)AGILITY - this incorporates a few things such as hand to eye coordination, reaction speed, reflexes, and balance. This affects your characters reaction to threats and surpises as well as their accuracy with thrown weapons and bows. Also this affects your characters ability to dodge attacks. this is the main ability for rogues and theives.
3)HEALTH - This is a vital ability for everyone. it represents your characters physique, fitness, resistance to illness and hardships and disease. Certain events can lead to your character losing health such as serious illness or being ressurected. This ability also effects resistance to poisons and reactions to healings and shock as well as some other things that may come up in the game.
4)INTELLIGENCE - this reflects the caracters memory, ability to reason and comprehend as well as their learning ability. This is the main ability for all types of magic users. This score also tells how many languages your character is capable of leaarning. This ability also dictates how high a level of magic a character can master as well as providing certain immnites to illusions and mind tricks for highly intelligent characters.
5)WISDOM - This is the main ability for clerics, priests, monks, druids. This abiltiy describes your characters judgement, willpower and level of enlightenment. A high wisdom score will aid your character resist magical attacks. Also any character with a high wisdom score will earn a bonus on their skill point awards.
6)CHARM - This ability measures the characters ability to lead others as well as their all around charm. It is a measure of peronality and does not affect their looks. It is not a measure of bueaty. It is an ability that is important for all characters especially those that lead groups or have to deal with NPCS(non playing chaaracters) such as merchants, hirelings, reatiners. t also affects how many people a character can lead and thir loyalty levels to that leader.
